Time Out says

Now in his seventies, Jack Whitten is a gestural abstractionist who emerged during a period 40 years ago when Conceptual Art and Minimalism were all the rage. His canvases of squeegeed colors (which anticipated Gerhard Richter’s signature efforts in a similar vein) were met with indifference, but Whitten has continued to shoulder on to a point where his career is now enjoying a significant revival. This show include paintings that feature chips of dried acrylic pigment set into the surface like tessellated mosaic tiles.
