Time Out says

These dynamic-shaped canvases from the early 1970s marked an important phase in Stella's career, pointing the way to later works that were indistinguishable from sculptural reliefs. An homage of sorts to early-20th-century Russian Constructivism, these felt on wood pieces were titled after towns in Poland that shared a certain infamy: They were once home to magnificent wooden synagogues destroyed by the Nazis.
