Francesco Clemente, "Two Tents"

Over his 40-year career, this avatar of 1980s Neo-Expressionism has spent considerable time living and working outside of his native Italy, with extended artistic sojourns in New York, India and Brazil, a nomadic life given material form in his latest show. Featured here are two large, brightly painted tents, created in the Mughal style with the help of craftsmen from India. The titles of the works, Angels’ Tent and Devil’s Tent, suggest an exploration of good and evil.
