Farah Atassi, “Paintings”

As far as Neo-Modernist paintings go, the work of this Belgian painter of Syrian extraction is notable for eye-popping brio the artist brings to her hard-edge amalgams of decorative pattern, geometric abstraction and figurative elements. References to psychedelia and ’60s fashion design bump up against homages to Picasso, Leger and Malevich in a stylistic mix that garnered the artist a nomination for the coveted Prix Marcel Duchamp in 2013. This show marks Atassi’s solo debut in NYC.
