Team gives over both of its spaces to this group show which, takes its title from a ritual associated with Beltane, an ancient Gaelic festival welcoming summer that's still celebrated by contemporary Wiccans. Revelers would divide a cake among them, marking one slice with charcoal before putting the lot into a bag or bonnet. The pieces would be drawn, and the person who picked out the "black cake" would either be pushed into—or required to jump over—a bonfire, depending on which sources you read. (Also, this practice seems to have been confined to the Scottish Highlands.) One may well wonder what if anything this has to do with art, or why an exhibition referencing summer is being mounted in the dead of winter, but even so, the lineup of talents—which includes Cecily Brown, Josephine Halvorson and Sterling Ruby, among others—is an interesting one.
