If you're into Japanese graphic novels, a new exhibit at Lehmann Maupin in Chelsea is sure to tickle your senses.
"Beyond the Alley, There..." is a solo exhibit by artist Mr. that specifically looks at otaku, a "popular Japanese subculture of fandom oriented around reclusion and retreat into immersive fantasy worlds, particularly manga and anime," according to an official press release.
The collection on display includes large-scale paintings, works on paper, shaped head and body paintings and more—all filled with almost commercial-like portrayals of slang phrases, emojis and chain logos. Think of it as extremely modern art that bring a slice of Asian culture to the High Line, where the gallery is found.
You've got until April 23 to catch the exhibit.
