This veteran German artist, who lives and works in Cologne, is a contemporary of such 1980s painters as Jiri Georg Dokoupil and George Condo, and his work shares their penchant for weird revivalism, mixing Pop Art and Surrealism with fragmentary traces of other 20th-century styles, as if De Chirico had left Léger for roadkill on the autobahn (or maybe the other way around). The paintings do indeed feature rather bulbously cartoonish window frames looking out over…well, mostly nothing, except acrid color gradations suggesting the skies over an alien world.
