For nearly 40 years, McCollum's idiosyncratic brand of Neo-Minimalist sculpture has occupied the intersection between the handmade and the mass-produced—most evidently in his signature "Surrogates" series. These tablet-shaped cast-plaster forms, suggesting empty picture frames, form the basis of this collaboration with artist Andrea Zittel, in which objects are painted, "collated" and installed according to a select palette of colors.
