Baremboym presents a spare installation of enigmatic objects, including ceramic grapefruit-size spheres, packed into upright cylindrical configurations held together by rings. Placed on the flooror pushed against stretchy vinyl sheets set into lit bays along one wall, they’re meant to evoke grapeshot canisters, an antipersonnel ordnance designed to inflict maximum shrapnel damage. Contrasting these is a black ramp-shaped piece, also on the floor, fabricated out of steel. A ceramic outline of the female reproductive system is fixed to its face, suggesting that the whole show is setting up a birth-death (or perhaps a male-female) dichotomy.
