Alexander Gorlizki, "For Immediate Release"

Persian miniature-style painting takes a turn toward the surreal and abstract in the work of this British expat who calls Brooklyn home. Found pieces of paper, pages from books, photos and postcards serve as the substrate for dense, intricate compositions, which are hung here against wallpaper of the artist's own design. A smattering of sculptures extends Gorlizki's eccentric tug-of-war between opulence and reserve into three dimensions.
