If your kid is always building contraptions out of toys and household objects, harness that creativity at Staten Island MakerSpace’s sessions, which cover engineering, design and fabrication. Campers find solutions to environmental issues by building Smart Garden Systems (July 18 to 22) and Wind Turbines (July 25 to 29) to help harness water or wind energy. They research and design, then use hand tools and digital devices like a laser cutter to make Arduino-based automatic watering garden systems or working wind generators. The finished projects are used to help MakerSpace’s outdoor workspace and garden function more efficiently. Ages 11–18.
