As a response to the violence that shook Newtown, CT, three weeks ago, the Astoria Based Theatre Company is hosting a benefit for the families of Sandy Hook Elementary at the 92nd Street Y's Weill Art Gallery. The celebration of childhood (with no mention of violence or the details of the shooting) will consist of readings of classic children's books, a raffle and kid-friendly entertainment like music and juggling. Families are asked to bring school supplies and children's books to donate to Sandy Hook Elementary; the audience can also decorate snowflakes for the National PTA's Snowflakes for Sandy Hook, an initiative that will transform the new school into a winter wonderland. All other proceeds will benefit the United Way's fund for families of the victims. All ages.
