Visiting the Bronx Zoo over the winter-holiday break may not have crossed your mind, but it turns out you could hardly pick a better time for making the trip. Families will embrace winter head on, taking in daily ice-sculpting demonstrations, frolicking in a rainforest-themed play space with a 25-foot-long ice slide and enjoying performances and storytelling by characters from Arthur and Frozen. Those at the zoo on Sunday, December 28 can watch professional ice sculptors face off in a battle of creativity during the Salute to Wildlife Ice Carving Competition, then vote for their favorite animal sculpture. The theme of this year's Ice Carving Week is Tropics on Ice, highlighting the Wildlife Conservation Society's work in the Brazilian rainforests and the Amazon River Basin. All ages.
