Peace Tree at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine Tree Lighting

As it has for more than 30 years, the colossal cathedral decorates its 20-foot tree with paper cranes (in Asia a symbol of harmony, longevity and reconciliation) hoping to reach 1,000 cranes. The tradition was inspired by 11-year-old Hiroshima survivor Sadako Sasaki, immortalized in the book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. The dedication ceremony will take place on Dec 21.All ages.
