Animal Care Class at the Art Farm in the City
Children learn how to care for guinea pigs, turtles, bunnies, bearded dragons and other four-legged creatures. While working with the live critters, kids also pick up science skills and master the art of observing and classifying animals. Dr. Dave's Little Vets School
Professional vet David Bessler shows aspiring animal doctors how to take X-rays, look at cheek cells under a microscope and measure animals' heartbeats—kids even get to try out real medical equipment. Working for Wildlife at the Bronx Zoo
Kids discover the ins and outs of looking after the zoo's many residents, among them lions and tiger cubs. Attendees learn how keepers and other zoo employees monitor animal behavior, feed critters and engage them with toys. Bronx Zoo, 2300 Southern Blvd at Fordham Rd, Bronx (718-220-5100, bronxzoo.org).
