It's been quite a while since we saw the sun for any length of time, and it feels like centuries since we were able to leave the house without multiple layers. Our calendars might say February, but we're impatiently waiting for spring's much-needed arrival.

Over the past few days, New Yorkers were teased with warmer weather and brief sightings of blue skies. Naturally, these few glimmers of hope made us wonder if we're going to have an early spring. With that in mind, we have no question but to ask: Will cherry blossoms bloom earlier this year? Well...it depends.

Warmer weather certainly increases our chances of seeing the delightful pink flowers arrive sooner rather than later, but there are a few caveats. Temperatures must remain consistently high for a few days in a row and ideally must reach over 60 degrees, according to Patch. Remember the 70-degree weather last week? If we were treated to a few days of that, we could really kick things into high gear. Start crossing your fingers!

Typically, the flowers start to bloom some time in April, but this year we're getting particularly antsy. With any hope, these warmer days will get the ball rolling so we can take the family to see the goods at the New York Botanical Garden. Before heading to the Bronx—or even the Brooklyn Botanic Garden—check out these other places in NYC where you see cherry blossoms. There are a few must-visit locations calling your name (plus, no matter where you go, you're promised a few spectacular photo ops).

So while we're on the right track to seeing these babies bloom sooner than usual, we're going to have to hope that it's just a tad warmer. Don't let us down, Mother Nature.
