This wild new balloon exhibit at Brookfield Place will make kids swoon

NYC comes alive in the summertime. To usher in the season properly, Brookfield Place will host a new balloon exhibit with quirky designs and pops of fun colors, so come prepared for a selfie or two.

From July 11–15, Jason Hackenwerth's "Animal Soul" will be on display, and the combination of mythology, science and whimsical shapes will be irresistible to visitors young and old. Perhaps the most exciting aspect for kiddies, Hackenwerth's pieces welcome exploration and touch (unlike strict museum rules). Parents: You won't have to worry about wrangling in the kids this time around.

The three installations—which appear as some sort of cross between flowers and animals—each have a story. There's Helio (which is considered personification of the sun), Nagi (which means “serpent” in Sanskrit) and Cronus (a Greek mythological figure). Whether or not the kiddies will delve into the meaning behind the pieces, they'll certainly love taking in the scenes nonetheless.

If you and your crew are hunting for more free public art displays, make sure you catch the gorgeously painted Sing for Hope pianos before they're gone. Up until June 24, these instruments will be available in public locations across the city, and they wholeheartedly welcome a quick tune in between commutes. If you're curious about locations, find the piano closest to you here

Enjoy the art...and the photos!
