Pretty soon, an animal safari won't be out of the realm of activity possibilities for NYC families. (Yes, really.)
Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey just announced that its Safari adventure will open as a drive-through experience, following Governor Phil Murphy’s executive order permitting drive-through events where attendees can practice social distancing.
Just book a reservation, hop in the car and 1,200 animals will be available right before your eyes. What originally operated as a self-drive-through attraction from 1974 through 2012 ultimately morphed into guided truck tours. Now, the experience is returning to its old ways so that visitors will remain at a distance from one another. Currently, the park is finalizing plans on the safety protocols for park workers, guests and animals. An opening date for the Safari has yet to be revealed.
This announcement comes on the heels of the park deciding it'll be a reservation-only attraction once the state of New Jersey has given it the green light to reopen. According to the website, "To meet state social distancing guidelines and ensure the health and safety of our guests, all visits to the park must be pre-scheduled using our online reservation system." This goes for all visitors, including pass holders and members.
To see how other kids' amusement parks are envisioning their new normal, check out the protocols they'll be putting in place. We can't guarantee these spots will have live animals, but if this were Luna Park in Coney Island circa 1900s, you just might catch a rogue elephant wandering through the crowd.
