Though the summer solstice is June 21, the season unofficially kicks off when NYC pools are ready for swimmers.

Roosevelt Island—known as a quiet spot in New York with a fairly spooky past—will welcome visitors starting this weekend for the 2018 debut of the  Manhattan Park Pool Club, so make sure you have a towel and sunscreen handy.

The Candy Cane-esque ambiance of the pool's pastel yellow, pink, purple and blue is courtesy of Technodrome1, K&Co and Pliskin Architecture, according to Curbed, and it's certainly a scenic place to take a dip. Not only will viewers be able to play Marco Polo in this great space, they'll be on the island's waterfront amidst gorgeous summer colors. No need to tell us twice!

Thinking about bringing the family? Those who are not Roosevelt Island residents will be required to pay $35 during the week and $50 over the weekends to gain access to the pool. If you live on the Island, you can enjoy the venue for a fee of $25 during the week and $35 on the weekends, Curbed adds.

Not to worry, there are also plenty of free places to cool off in NYC. The best swimming pools for kids—the Brooklyn Bridge Pop-Up Pool, Astoria Park Pool, among others—are free and open to the public beginning June 27, according to NYC Parks. Need to cool off before then? Bring the kids to the best water playgrounds in NYC to beat the heat. Naturally, you'll want to top off these outdoor activities with a cone at the best ice cream shops for kids.

Enjoy your summer adventures!
