Have a five-year-old on your hands? Now is the time to start making scholastic plans for 2020-2021.

NYC Schools will open the kindergarten application on Dec 10 and give parents until Jan 19 to complete the process. All five year olds in NYC, regardless of background or previous schooling, are guaranteed a spot. Moms and dads can opt to submit their apps by phone (718-935-2009) or web.

There are two types of selections: zoned schools and non-zoned schools, which children from anywhere in the district or borough can attend. Parents can get a sense of what is in their neighborhood by visiting MySchools.

To learn more about the application process, visit the NYC DOE website. In the meantime, be sure to explore online classes for kids, sit in for a virtual storytime with the New York Public Library and have a look at the 2020-2021 NYC school calendar to see what's currently happening within the DOE.
