The question on everyone's mind is, "Will schools reopen in September?"
Although New Yorkers shouldn't expect an answer until later this summer, they should be prepared to share their thoughts on how to proceed this fall. NYC Schools just launched "The Return-to-School 2020" anonymous survey, which will address both students and parents' feelings about reopening for the 2020-20201 term.
.@NYCschools families & students: complete our Return-to-School survey now at https://t.co/3UbGKrGAyZ! Teachers and school staff: we need to hear from you too about the re-opening of school buildings in Fall 2020, so stay tuned for the employee survey coming soon! https://t.co/q2WPjsWexQ
— Chancellor Richard A. Carranza (@DOEChancellor) June 12, 2020
Students in grades 6-12 are invited to take the survey, as well as parents and guardians of students in grades 3-K through 12. It is to be completed online by June 22 and has been translated into all of the DOE-supported languages: Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Haitian Creole, Korean, Russian, Spanish and Urdu. An employee survey is to follow in the coming weeks.
In a letter that has circulated amongst principals, superintendents and other important stakeholders, earlier this week Chancellor Richard Carranza suggested that September will likely be a mix of online learning and in-person learning. Schools will be expected to comply with city, state and CDC guidelines regarding building capacity, and adjustments will need to be made with scheduling, busing and meals. Additionally, schools will need PPE supplies and could quite possibly conduct temperature checks.
