The holidays might be over, but there are still plenty of things to look forward to this winter, especially if you and the family are en route to Bryant Park.

On Saturdays through Feb 24, little ones can join resident storyteller Cali Co Cat for a free reading at noon. Excited park-goers are asked to meet at Overlook at Bank of America Winter Village Ice-Rink for the free event.

Fortunately, the fun doesn’t stop with a good book. This is also prime time for youngsters to show their skills on the ice. The Read-to-Skate StoryTime program allows little New Yorkers to enjoy both a sport and story, so it’s a win-win winter event if ever there was one.

However, if you’re looking to rake in freebies, there’s a catch. In order to qualify for one free skate rental, your kiddo must attend two StoryTime programs and attend either one event New York Public Library’s Children’s Center at 42nd St or enjoy one library book (a breeze, if you ask me). You and your fam can pick up a postcard for stamping (and keeping track of your attended events) once at the park.

If you’re looking to go for the gold, those families who attend three events at Overlook will receive one free skate rental for an adult. Another bonus? Free books are available at each event while supplies last and you can qualify to enter the raffle for a Learn-to-Skate lesson.

Skating and stories—is there a better combo for the colder months? Visit the Winter Village website to learn more.
