National Dog Day is this Saturday, August 26! To celebrate, StreetEasy and Rover have partnered up to find the best NYC neighborhoods for dog owners. The rankings were calculated based on the number of pet-friendly rental listings on StreetEasy, the number of dog sitters in the area found on Rover, nearby veterinarian clinics and dog parks. Where do you think your neighborhood ranked?
According to the results, lower Manhattan residents and their pups are living the life thanks to high marks in the four categories. Battery Park City came in at number one with 63 percent of rental buildings welcoming dogs. DUMBO, which ranked number two, boasts seven dog parks and 26 percent of rentals in Tribeca are dog-friendly, which rounded out the top three spots. The Financial District, Roosevelt Island, Columbia St/Waterfront District, Flatiron, SoHo, Silver Lake and Downtown Brooklyn were also in the top 10.
The report also included the most popular breeds seen strutting through the streets of NYC. Yorkshire Terriers, Shih Tzus and Chihuahuas are the top three—probably due to their petite size and the fact that cramped NYC apartments leave little room for massive tail wags. In fact, 42 percent of the city’s dog population are small dogs, and giant breeds, such as Great Danes and Bernese Mountain Dogs, make up only one percent.

In addition to the data release, StreetEasy will also donate $100 to NYC shelter Animal Haven for every pet adopted over the weekend.
