The West Side has been graced with a lot of great new stuff in the last two years (like the playground at Hudson Yards), and we’re happy to announce that there’s way more to come. Chelsea Waterside Play Area (originally built back in 2000) in Hudson River Park is getting a $2M renovation in 2017 that includes areas for tykes, children and teens, two water play areas, ample seating for parents and a massive snake-like structure with slides, climbing areas and paths. It'll even include stone slabs and animal head sculptures you may have seen in recent walks by the storage lots along the Hudson River!
The design incorporates trees for shade and will rid the area of broken/unsafe equipment, damaged play surfaces, drainage issues and broken water sprayers with the help from the Hudson River Park Trust. For more outdoor fun, check out our favorite kids' playgrounds, outdoor activities for kids and (for summertime only!) our list of top splash parks and water playgrounds.
*Chelsea Waterside Play Area is located at W 23rd St and 11th Ave. Renovations are projected to begin in 2017.
