Forget the landlubbers—International Talk Like a Pirate Day is great for silly kids (and…well…adults) that enjoy finding an excuse to say “YARR!” Since your little ones will probably be hunting for buried treasure anyway, grab a pirate’s hat, draw on a fake mustache and set out on one of these cute family adventures Saturday, September 19th.

1. Sing like a pirate at South Street Seaport

Join the The New York Packet band in the South Street Seaport Museum lobby from 1:30pm–4pm to hear fun sea shanties (and sing along!). There will also be fun nautical kids’ crafts.

2. Brave the seven seas via boat

Boat rides are the best (and it’s easy to pretend you’re on a wild adventure when the shore is far away! Take a spin on fast boats like the Shark or more relaxed rides like the Staten Island Ferry.

3. Brave the seven seas via kayak

If the kiddos are old enough to hold their own in a kayak, there are plenty of places for free kayaking in NYC. Their pirate hats will also actually stay on during the journey, too!

4. Drop by the New York Aquarium to see cool sea monsters

While the New York Aquarium might not be full of Pirates of the Caribbean–style Krakens, it IS full of cool critters like harbor seals, pacific walrus, cool fish and even cownose rays.

5. Get a free donut at Krispy Kreme

Ok, so this is a little less than pirate-ey, but free donuts are involved! They count as Pirate treasure, right? If you visit Krispy Kreme and talk like a pirate, you’ll get a free donut. If you come in DRESSED like a pirate, you get a free dozen! Find Krispy Kreme at One Penn Plaza, 2 Pennsylvania Plaza
