Battery Park

The park at the southern tip of Manhattan offers beautiful gardens and excellent views:  You can see New Jersey, the Statue of Liberty and the Staten Island ferry from a single spot. Once it reopens this fall, check out the Labyrinthe, a spiral made of shrubbery, and the circular stone fountain at the Bosque.  Revisit the Battery's storied history at the 200-plus-year-old Castle Clinton, a national monument that once acted as a War of 1812 fort and where millions of immigrants were received, decades before the existence of Ellis Island. At the sustainable and organic Battery Urban Farm, kids can plant and harvest their own food through occasional festivals, one-time workshops or summer programs.
