Why we’re going back to Time Out — we’re coming out of our second hibernation, Montreal

As the city enters its final phase of deconfinement, it's time to reemerge, rejuvenate and rediscover our city—slowly and safely

Bonjour-Hi Montreal,

It's hard to imagine that it's only been three and a half months since we switched from Time Out to Time In. It's felt like years since people around the world made the collective effort to limit the outbreak and flatten the curve; since so many of us courageously stepped up to become—and continue to be—frontline workers in healthcare, goods and services; since the whole world closed up shop as we waited for good news.

After the Quebec government's announcement on June 25th concerning our steps towards the province's final phase of deconfinement, we thought that there's no better time than now to switch back to Time Out, slowly and safely.

We haven't stayed indoors this much since winter, Montreal.

It's time to come out of our second hibernation.

We're continuing our mission to keep Montrealers informed about the latest things happening in and around the island and keep news about the city's countless entertainments flowing, whether it's the best things to do at home or the best things to do, eat, see and drink in Montreal.

If you're staying in? There continues to be tons of amazing artists livestreaming from all corners of the planet, virtual museum visits, binge-watching, armchair travelling and more to do. We're continuing to cover that.

But if you're looking to go out? There's no time more important than now to show the city some love, to explore and to support the local businesses, artisans, makers and shakers we know and love. We're here to help guide our readers through this unprecedented and unknown territory, sharing the latest in new initiatives and innovations Montreal's coming up with through this new reality we're all facing, from new drive-in theatres and the transformed formats of our favourite museums and festivals to the reopening of our very own Time Out Market.

Make no mistake: We're still waiting for our official return to normalcy. The pandemic isn't over, and we urge every Montrealer reading this to continue to practice safe social distancing, wear masks, wash/sanitize their hands, and to self-isolate and get tested if they show any signs or symptoms.

If you have questions about the new restrictions and rules around the city's reopening, check out our guide to Montreal's reopening and stay in the know with the latest information.

Stay safe and be kind to one another,

JP Karwacki
