Canada Day isn't the biggest holiday in Montreal. Most locals think of it as the day where the majority of the city's transient population—students, artists and all bohemian types in between—spend the day moving from one apartment to another, leaving piles (and we're talking PILES) of trash behind in their wake. But if you like where you're renting and don't want to pick through the junk others leave behind? Try joining in on the party and enjoy everything going on in the city!

What is Canada Day 2019?
Canada Day's history isn't quite as exciting as its modern day celebrations, but if you'd like to know about why it's important, read on: This day commemorates the union of many of the country's current-day provinces into the single entity we know and love today. Rather than this happening through the marriage of two star-crossed lovers or a bloody war (OK, there were some wars, but nothing related directly to this union), Canada became what it was when leaders all agreed to sign the Constitution Act of 1867. We might've disagreed, even bickered over a bit, but we compromised and shook hands and were generally pleasant about it as most Canadians are.
When is Canada Day 2019?
This year, Canda Day falls on July 1, 2019. That's a Monday, making the weekend before it a long one!
Where can I visit during Canada Day 2019?
The biggest event on the day of the holiday always happens in Old Montreal where people gather for a wealth of family-friendly activities and demonstrations of nationalistic pride. There are, however, many other celebrations across the island, particularly in more anglophone parts to the west.
