Will a public holiday be declared for King Charles' coronation?
It has been confirmed that the United Kingdom will get a bank holiday to mark the occasion. As the coronation itself will fall on a Saturday, the bank holiday will take place on Monday, May 8 2023, two days after the service at Westminster Abbey.
Whether other countries will get a public holiday for King Charles' coronation will be up to the discretion of their respective governments.
Canada has yet to confirm whether or not there will be a public holiday to mark the occasion.
What else is being done in Canada to mark the coronation?
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, Canada will hold a ceremony in Ottawa to mark the occasion which will include speeches, artistic performances and more.
When is King Charles' coronation date?
The coronation will take place on Saturday, May 6 2023. The date is 8 months after his automatic appointment as King on September 8 2022.
This will mark the first time a coronation ceremony will take place on a weekend since 1902 when Edward VII was crowned King.
