What are the chances?
As Environment Canada issues a winter storm watch for several areas on the East Coast—we’re hearing about significant snow and strong winds expected in areas of New Brunswick, including the Acadian Peninsula, Kent County, Moncton and the southeastern part of the province, and blizzard conditions across parts of southeastern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba—Montreal is bracing itself for the unknown.
The city had a mild fall due to a rare weather phenomena, where dramatic temperature swings, severe weather warnings and heat waves were just the beginning. Then we were warned about heavier than average precipitation and persistent Arctic air (read: cold).
The most recent report from the Weather Network forecasts 20 centimetres of precipitation on the horizon, but will it be snow or (more) rain? Will we be skiing in powder, or skating in the sunshine?
Temperatures have been wet, windy and mild up until now, but that may change as we continue into December. While this complicated weather pattern may or may not lead to significant snowfall, one thing we know for sure is that there are plenty of ways to enjoy Montreal rain or shine—whether you're hanging out on the world's coolest street, checking out the city's holiday lights (and light installations) or eating at one of the city's best, and best new restaurants.
