The hotter and more humid dog days of summer might be over, but the season's still got a way to go before it's over. So leave to Montreal's bars to help you enjoy the last of the year's hotter days to the last drop: While always good for a glass with a charcuterie board throughout the week, VV Taverna—one of the best bars in Little Italy—is doing classic black and white film screenings every Monday.
Led by the Montreal-based media artist Philippe Léonard, the wine bar has been hosting movie screenings on its terrasse that have included films such as Fritz Lang's Metropolis and The Kid starring Charlie Chaplin, among others.
Tonight, the wine-forward bar will be screening three short films exploring urban spaces at different times between Amsterdam, Paris and Montreal: Joris Ivens' Regen (1929), Agnès Varda's L’opéra-mouffe (1958) and Arthur Lipsett's Very nice, very nice (1961).
As the films are projected via an original 16mm camera onto a wall, the sound is rebroadcasted via FM radio.

In addition to acting as host and curator of the movie screenings, Léonard's photography series Fleurs d’automne is currently being exhibited at the bar as well and is worth a trip in and of itself throughout the rest of the week.
