The list of best new hotels in the world in 2025 has been unveiled by Travel + Leisure's editors and reporters, and not one Canadian property made the cut.

Montreal is home to one of the world’s best hotels, and this bucket list property just outside of Montreal recently ranked number one in Canada.

And remember when 8 Quebec hotels ranked the best in the world last fall?

But when it came time for Travel + Leisure to publish their annual It list, Canada was nowhere to be seen.

To uncover the hotels truly worth the journey this year, Travel + Leisure dispatched 64 reporters to review newly opened and refreshed properties across 44 countries.

They checked into high-end resorts from major global brands, stayed at independent boutique hotels revitalizing urban neighbourhoods, and splurged on an ultra-luxurious escape in the Maldives that clocked in at over $5,000 a night.

For those seeking style without the splurge, they also curated a list of affordable luxury stays that prove you don’t have to spend more than your rent for a chic getaway.

And for the second year in a row, they included standout cruise ships.

If a property includes accessible common areas and rooms equipped for travellers with disabilities, they noted that, too.

So why didn't Canada make the cut?

Where is the best new hotel in the world in 2025?

Coming in on top is 100 Princes Street in Edinburgh.

The retreat occupies the former Scottish headquarters of the Royal Over-Seas League, a global members’ club established in 1910.

Though the grand foyer ceiling and sweeping first-floor staircase remain intact, the rest of the 30-room hotel has been lovingly reimagined by the family-run Red Carnation Hotel Collection.

The space is richly Scottish in spirit—Do Not Disturb signs resemble traditional sporrans worn with kilts, and suites are named after legendary explorers like Isobel Wylie Hutchison, the trailblazing 20th-century botanist and filmmaker.

The culinary offerings follow suit, with haggis on the breakfast menu, buttery shortbread at afternoon tea, and nearly 170 single malts awaiting discovery in Ghillie’s Pantry, a cozy tasting room stocked with rare whiskies.
