Award-winning film screenings under the stars this August? Yes, please.
With screens (small and large) popping up all over the city from downtown to the Lachine Canal, there’s something for every film buff at different locations (and parks!) across Montreal. Grab your favourite cheap eats, a chair, blanket, and wait for the sunset!
1. Film Noir Au Canal
Every Sunday at 7 p.m. until August 21, expect a free film screening and live music in Square Saint-Patrick (between the Lachine Canal and rue Wellington and Saint-Patrick). Travelling by kayak? The site is also accessible by water via the canal.

2. Downtown Screenings Under the Stars
Head to Place de la Paix next to the Société des Arts Technologiques (SAT), home to one of the city’s best rooftop bars, on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. until September 8. In the event of rain, screenings move to the ground floor of the SAT, making the event 18 years and over.

3. Cinemania Film Festival
