Located on picturesque Lac St-Louis at the mouth of the Soulanges canal, Village Des Écluses has it all. And with so many cool free things to do in and around the city, the free beach access at this beach resort should be on your summer to do list.

Just a 40-minute drive from the heart of the city, this lakeside resort—complete with beachfront terrasse (think: beer garden vibes), craft beer from Le Castor microbrewery, live bands every Thursday and cultural events—was originally a campsite developed for Expo 67.

There are water equipment rentals (paddleboards, kayaks and electric surfboards) for those who love a good beach sport, with plenty of local hiking trails and cycling paths for those who prefer to stay on dry land.

Finish your day by grabbing a beer and some streetfood-inspired eats on one of the best terrasses in the area, or take in a performance at the Théâtre des Cascades.
