Just when we were really starting to wonder where all the snow was thanks to an unusually warm weather trend, Montreal is bracing for a major winter storm.

Starting Thursday, a low pressure system from Colorado is moving into Southern Quebec and is expected to bring between 15 to 25 cm of snow across the province.

According to Environment Canada, the rapidly intensifying snowfall—making travel difficult in some locations—will be mixed with freezing rain starting on Friday morning.

The warnings were issued for the Châteauguay - La Prairie, Laval, Longueuil - Varennes and Montréal Island areas.

As the weather system departs Friday evening, colder air is anticipated to move in for the weekend.

The snow is great news for local ski hills, especially in the Laurentians and Lanaudière where up to 40 cm of snow could accumulate.

And there’s nothing like inclement weather to make us appreciate the city’s most delicious comfort food, cheap eats and coziest restaurants.

Take advantage of Montreal's best winter activities, and all of the indoor ways to enjoy the city snow, rain or shine—whether you're eating at one of the year's best restaurants (or best new restaurants), grabbing a cocktail (or mocktail) at one of the city's best bars or enjoying one of Montreal's many family-friendly activities.
