Montreal's top culinary school, the Institut de Tourisme et d’Hôtellerie du Québec, has joined restaurants across the province—from independents to chains—with the creation of a new evening takeout menu.

Yesterday marked its first service, where a four-course menu can now be purchased for as little as $35 before taxes and tip (or an à la carte option that start at $9 per dish). It's on course to steal the show at a price point like that, especially when considering the menu they're working with—they've also got beer and wine for takeaway as well.

Currently on the 'gourmet' side, there's choices like field pea and okara falafel, seasonal mushroom ravioli with a vegetable jus (vegan), duck breast with shallot, juniper jus and root vegetables, and a vegan tiramisu for dessert. There's also a vegan menu with beet carpaccio, soy and millet tempeh with glazed cipollini and root vegetables.

It's all available from Tuesday to Saturday; order your food online or by phone before 5pm, and picking up your meal can happen at the restaurant between 5pm and 7:30pm, making for a quick pick-up option if you find yourself in the Plateau in need of dinner (and a price to match a couple fast food combos).

After Montreal was placed in a red zone, restaurants across the city went forced into survival mode with shuttered dining rooms while bars were forced to shutdown until the situation would be reassessed by October 28th. The months since the pandemic forced a complete lockdown on March 15th, causing all restaurants to reassess their operations.

ITHQ's latest shift to takeout indicates how widespread the effects have been.
