Today's the first day of the Montreal Christmas market under the centuries-old roof of the restaurant Auberge Saint-Gabriel, an event that will be running all weekend long and unlike nothing the restaurant has hosted before.
Following the ongoing trend of restaurants buttressing their lack of diners by turning their dining rooms into retail spaces, the Auberge Saint-Gabriel's market runs today and Friday from 3pm to 9pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 6pm. There, Montrealers can shop for just about anything they'll need for the holidays, from Christmas trees to gifts made by local businesses.
So what's on the table?

The restaurant itself will be selling a lot of stuff for the foodie you want to gift, from house preserves and marinades to foie gras terrine, jams, a house dulce de leche and smoked apple butter.
There will also be—among the vendors currently announced (meaning that there will be more than what's listed here)—beer from Brasserie Amiral, loungewear from Girl Crush Gang, bath products from Selv Rituels, jewelry by Summer memories, floral decorations from Atelier Sauvageon, products from the international grocer and importer La Vieille Europe, beauty products by Beauties Lab, holistic products from Palo, cocktail and bar equipment from Alambika, plants from Jardin Dépôt, men's care products from Wise, cosmetics by Maison Stoï, Bramucci's high-end gastronomic products, artistic curios from Arts by Julia and Le Centerpiece, plus wine from Charton Hobbs Quebec.
Auberge Saint-Gabriel also made headlines recently for selling fondue kits for takeout and delivery, which are made available so long as they're not all bought up—perfect for the chillier temperatures in the city.
