Montreal Tornado warning and more: 3 severe weather alerts issued today

Severe thunderstorms with strong gusts, large hail, heavy rain and a risk of a tornado are forecasted.

Large hail? Risk of a tornado? Severe thunderstorm watch?

This afternoon, the conditions are ripe in Montreal for severe thunderstorms that could bring strong gusts, large hail, heavy rain and risk of a tornado.

Environment Canada cautions that large hail can damage property and cause injury.

Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage buildings, break tree branches, and overturn large vehicles. 

Heavy downpours can lead to flash floods and water pooling on roads. 

Furthermore, water-related activities may be unsafe due to sudden and violent wind gusts over bodies of water.

Has Montreal ever had a tornado?

In May, 2024, Environment Canada cited a tornado that hit west of Montreal generating maximum wind speeds of about 155 kilometres per hour.
