UPDATE, March 27, 2025: Environment Canada has just issued a special weather statement regarding snow over southern and southwestern Quebec on Saturday, March 29, 2025. A low pressure system may bring significant snowfall amounts to Montreal and the Eastern Townships from Friday evening to Saturday midday. The report warns that snow could change over to ice pellets.

If you haven’t seen the official spring forecast for Montreal, you might want to brace yourself.

Before we even reach April, a heavy system bringing a messy mix of snow, freezing rain, wind and more rain is on its way.

A significant system coming from the U.S. is expected to hit Quebec this weekend, lasting up to three days.

Quebec could be heavily affected on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, with strong winds complicating the situation.

Several types of precipitation are expected, so Montrealers should get ready for a real weather mix, something that hasn’t happened often since December, 2024.

This major system could produce steady snow, occasionally mixed with freezing rain in large amounts.

Does Montreal get snow in March?

Last year, 20 to 30 cm of heavy snow fell on April 3 and 4. Strong gusts caused hundreds of thousands of power outages in Quebec.

Nearly two years ago, an ice storm struck Quebec in early April.

Over one million power outages were reported due to the freezing rain, which reached 35 mm in some areas.
