Get ready to ring in the new year with a bang!
It’s official: Igloofest will be bringing back Montreal’s New Years Eve fireworks celebrations with a multimedia display and more.
Montreal has a packed schedule of free events for the 2024 holiday season, with the standout experience being the return of midnight fireworks at the Old Port on December 31, 2024.
This much-anticipated event hasn’t happened since 2022, when Montréal en Fêtes experienced financial challenges and the fireworks were cancelled.
And with all the magical things happening during the Christmas season, the fireworks should be at the top of your list of things to do.
Where can I watch fireworks in New Year's Eve in Montreal?
At least 8 artists will perform between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., not to mention the traditional countdown and epic fireworks at midnight accompanied by a stunning multimedia performance.
The festivities will take place on the Jacques-Cartier Pier in Old Montreal as part of Igloofête, the free component of Igloofest.
What other free events are happening?
6 other free events have been planned during the festive season, including the fireworks event on December 31.
From December 29 to 31, 2024, the organization Aire commune will host Montréal festive—a 3-day event at Place Jacques-Cartier. Expect festive experiences and family activities during the day, with free concerts held in the evening.
On the Quartier des spectacles side, La Lutinerie will host the 4th Grand Marché de Noël, while L’Auguste Théâtre will organize the Festival in place Émilie-Gamelin.
Montréal La Plus Heureuse will present La Manifestation De Joie Du Temps Des Fêtes, and the Festival Triste will animate Noël Doux, in Place du Village in the Ville-Marie borough.
Last but not least, the Maison De La Poésie will organize Récits Divers at Place du Canada.
What are the best things to do during Christmas in Montreal?
There’s plenty going on in this city on December 25th. On the dining and drinking side, expect to find seasonal cocktails in speakeasy bars and feasts in the city’s best Chinese restaurants alongside the best brunch and best breakfast spots.
As for getting out and about, activities range from ice skating in Montreal to indie films, live music and some volunteer opportunities (‘tis always the season!).
