We’ve been speculating, and counting down the days until the MICHELIN Guide reveal in Quebec, and the day is finally here.
The MICHELIN Guide has marked its calendar for the unveiling of its very first Québec selection in 2025, and Montreal's best restaurants and top chefs are on high alert.
Why are there no MICHELIN star restaurants in Montreal or Quebec already?
Despite Montreal being ranked one of 50 Best Food Cities in the world, The MICHELIN Guide has only recently expanded to the province of Québec, specifically announcing its arrival in 2024. Until recently, the guide has focused on specific cities and regions in Europe and Asia, and not the province of Quebec.
When does the 2025 MICHELIN Guide to Quebec officially come out?
It's official: the announcement will be made through an official press release on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
Currently, the anonymous MICHELIN Guide Inspectors are putting the final touches on a list full of culinary treasures for both local and international travellers.
Who do we think should be on the list?
When Montreal has a MICHELIN Guide, these are the restaurants we think will earn a spot on the list.
How will the announcement be made?
The complete list of selected restaurants will be available on guide.michelin.com and published on MichelinMedia.com, and will be shared widely with the press. On this day, chefs will find out if their restaurants have earned a MICHELIN Star or another distinction from the prestigious Guide.
How will the MICHELIN ranking work?
The reveal will include the coveted MICHELIN Stars—awarded in one, two, or three stars for exceptional cuisine—as well as Bib Gourmand selections for great food at good value, MICHELIN Green Stars for excellence in sustainable gastronomy, recommended restaurants, and several professional awards.
Is there a MICHELIN Guide in Canada?
MICHELIN announced its first North American Guide in 2005 for New York.
Guides have also been added in Chicago (2011); Washington, D.C. (2017); California (San Francisco in 2007, statewide 2019); Florida (Greater Miami, Orlando and Tampa in 2022, adding Greater Fort Lauderdale, The Palm Beaches and St. Pete-Clearwater in 2025, statewide in 2026); Toronto (2022); Vancouver (2022); Colorado (2023); Atlanta (2023), Mexico (2024), Texas (2024), Québec (2024) and the American South (2025).
What is the MICHELIN Guide?
Celebrated worldwide for its commitment to excellence, the MICHELIN Guide showcases a curated selection of top-tier restaurants.
The coveted MICHELIN Stars—awarded in one, two, or three stars—recognize restaurants serving outstanding cuisine, expertly prepared and infused with the chef’s unique vision.
The Bib Gourmand distinction highlights spots offering high-quality food at an excellent value—often considered favourites by inspectors when dining off the clock.
The MICHELIN Green Star is awarded to restaurants leading the way in sustainable gastronomy.
The Guide also features recommended restaurants and honours exceptional talent with special professional awards.
Since its beginnings in early 20th-century France as a practical guide for motorists, the MICHELIN Guide has evolved into a global authority in restaurant and hotel recommendations. Its team of anonymous, rigorously trained inspectors continues to uphold the same five criteria that have defined the Guide for decades: the quality of ingredients, mastery of technique, harmony of flavours, the personality of the chef in the dish, and consistency across visits and menu offerings.
Today, the Guide is recognized in over 60 destinations and offers not only top dining picks but also an exclusive hotel collection featuring unique places to stay around the globe. Whether through its website or app, the MICHELIN Guide remains the go-to source for unforgettable culinary and hospitality experiences.
