How many trains have been cancelled and delayed?

As of today, VIA Rail has canceled almost 20 trains. For a complete list of all cancellations, click here.

Additional cancellations affect several other routes, including parts of the Quebec City-Montreal corridor.

Delays are also reported, with some trains arriving up to four hours late.

Can I get a refund on my train ticket?

Passengers are entitled to compensation in the form of travel credit when these situations occur.

If your train is late in the Quebec-Windsor Corridor, a delay over an hour and under four hours results in a 50% travel credit, and a delay of four hours or more is a 100% travel credit.

A train replacement with an alternate mode of transportation is 50%, and re-accommodation onto another train departing at a different time is also 50%.

Compensation is applicable only if you are informed of the disruption after 6:00 PM (ET) the day prior to the departure of your train, the day of your departure or during your trip.

VIA Rail reserves the right to modify or cancel its late train travel credit policy when faced by major events beyond its control, such as extreme weather conditions. Passengers are notified in advance of anticipated delays like work on the tracks.
