It comes as no surprise to Madonna, Joe Jonas and any Montrealer that this city is one of the best.
We complain about the orange cones and endless construction, but at heart we know we have a seriously good thing going on in Montreal—epic restaurants, rich cultural events and tons of amazing free things to do included.
Which city is number one in the world?
This year we surveyed thousands of city-dwellers in collaboration with research company Potenia Insight to curate a list of the top 50 cities in the world.
Taking into account the quality and affordability of food, culture and nightlife, we also quizzed locals and our global network of experts about how their city makes them feel, and what it’s like to live, work and play in their hometowns right now.
Coming out on top in 2024 was New York, followed by Cape Town, Berlin, London and Madrid. Check out Time Out’s complete list here.
Is Montreal one of the best cities in the world?
Take one of the largest global cultural hubs and infuse it with classical European architecture and innovative design, and you get Montreal.
Toss in a variety of the finest cuisine in the country, a progressive cocktail scene, an endless rotation of family-friendly activities, and some of the most exciting festivals (including Montreal en Lumiere, one of Canada's largest outdoor winter events), and you can see why Montreal ranked number 29 on the list of the best cities on the planet.
