What are the key parts of the coronation?

In accordance with custom, the coronation ceremony will involve the monarch taking an oath to be the "defender of the faith," but there are also plans to include additional language to recognize Britain's diverse population and the King's service to all religions.

After this, Charles will be anointed, blessed, and consecrated by the Archbishop, and will receive the orb and sceptres before being crowned with the St Edward's Crown, which will officially make him King Charles III. A brief ceremony will follow to crown Queen Camilla.

As a tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh, the Byzantine Chant Ensemble will play Greek Orthodox music during the ceremony, and Andrew Lloyd Webber has been commissioned to compose the coronation anthem.

King Charles personally selected 12 musical pieces to be played during the ceremony. While more than 8,000 guests attended the Queen's coronation, only 2,000 will be present at King Charles's coronation due to health and safety concerns, and only a few MPs and peers will be invited.

According to the royal family's website, the coronation is expected to be a mix of pageantry, celebration, and a solemn religious ceremony that has remained largely unchanged for over a thousand years.
