It’s official: Winter is on its way.
With an early snowfall predicted this month, it’s clear that Montreal needs to make the most of fall while it lasts—glorious leaf-peeping, pumpkin picking and visits to apple orchards included.
A frost advisory issued by Environment Canada this morning warns that temperatures are expected to approach freezing overnight.
According to the report, Montreal should expect a a low of 0 degrees celsius this morning.
What is a frost advisory?
These advisories occur when temperatures during the growing season are forecasted to hit freezing, posing a risk of damage to crops and plants.
With Halloween approaching, and all the family-friendly things to do this autumn in Montreal, there’s no better time to make sure you’ve got all your winter essentials—or at least start shopping for them.
When it comes to snow, La Niña is expected to throw the province into sudden winter conditions soon.
This may come as excellent news to those of us already thinking about Christmas, skiing and skating, and where to watch the free fireworks coming back to Montreal on New Years Eve.
(And we haven't even talked about the magical holiday train.)
When will Montreal get its first snowfall?
MétéoMédia notes that Montreal typically sees its first snowfall around October 27 according to data between 1991 and 2020.
It was also noted that Quebec also typically receives on average 1.3 snowfalls during the month of October.
