An equipment sharing solution called BoxUp has arrived in Montreal, and skates, helmets and snowshoes are all being offered for free.

With so many stunning snowshoeing and hiking trails, ice skating rinks and ski hills in and around the city, now is the perfect time to take advantage of this free activity.

BoxUp, a company whose mission is to tackle inequality in sport by providing free access to sporting equipment for everyone, has installed lockers in and around Montreal.

Totally free to use, the initiative aims to make physical, sporting and leisure activities more accessible to a wider audience.

It's the perfect solution for kids, families and adults looking to enjoy the best outdoor things to do this winter.

Time Out Tip: use this interactive snow conditions map from Sépaq which provides daily live updates, including a free app and mailing list so you can check snow conditions at the establishments of your choice every morning.

The solar powered lockers contain a variety of equipment based on the facilities and amenities in that location, and all equipment can be easily accessed by using a free app which allows users to have access to equipment for three hours.

When your activity is over, put the equipment back in the locker and upload a picture to the app confirming it’s been returned.
