Where are the best free beer tastings in the city? The Beer Bar at Time Out Market Montréal is featuring another of our favourite local microbreweries this November: Jukebox.

What makes Jukebox so special?

In 2012, Renaud Gouin—a young rocker dressed as a banker—created the Jukebox beer brand after noticing an absence of hoppy American beers on the local scene. The goal was to create a line of beers that showcases American trends, especially generously hopped beers. Jukebox merged with its sister company, Avant-Garde Artisans Brasseurs in 2018, and the two brands—now inextricably linked—took control of their own production facilities and erected a beautiful new brewery in the former home of the iconic Bingo Hochelaga.

On Juxebox's 10th anniversary, the brand went through a complete redesign: image; mission and all of the beers. The goal was to highlight the cultural heritage of American beer and its influence on our country's brewing culture, explore the great moments of America's brewing past and the defining moments in the evolution of craft beer culture.

What beers will be available at the market?

Jukebox will feature three unique beers in November:

American Red Ale

American red ale is an ellusive beer, somewhere on the margins of knife-edge stylistic definitions. It's a beer from the middle ground. It borrows its rich, malty body and plump cereal notes from the Anglo-Irish tradition and its flavor profile from the resinous, fruity hops of the American West Coast. It is an ambitious beer in its quest for balance and drinkability.

American Pilsner

An interpretation of the mythical pre-prohibition pilsner or Classic American Pilsner. This is the original American lager, which originated with German immigration to the United States and was common, in various forms, before prohibition and the subsequent closure of countless regional breweries. It is brewed with 6-row barley and corn and Cluster, Hallertau and Brewer's Gold hops.

Pale ale 1990

The year 1990 marked the appearance of Centennial on the American hop market. Also known as Super Cascade for its resinous, citrusy aroma properties similar to Cascade, the flagship hop of the Craft Revolution, Centennial is an icon of the aromatic expressiveness that characterizes hop culture in the United States today. This beer is a tribute to the pale ales of that era.

Each month, a local microbrewery is invited to offer a selection of its best products at the Time Out Market Montréal beer bar. For more information on Jukebox, click here.
