There are so many ways to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, but one of the highlights in Montreal is the parade.
When is the Chinese Lunar New Year parade?
On January 21 starting at 1 p.m., the Phoenix art school will kick off the festivities with a dragon dance and a group dance, followed by Montreal Fo Guang Shan and Montreal Chan Lion Dance Club performing a lion dance.
What is the route of the Chinese Lunar New Year parade?
This year, the parade is back in full force, featuring performances along De La Gauchetière Street (between Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Jeanne-Mance Street) and ending with a performance in Sun Yat-sen Park at 3 p.m.
Next up will be a waist-drum show and a Chinese opera performed by the Montreal Chinese Chamber of Commerce troupe, plus a fashion show featuring traditional Hanfu attire presented by the Tsingher association.
The event, presented in collaboration with the Montreal Chinese Chamber of Commerce, is a celebration of the dawn of a new year—the year of the Water Rabbit, which symbolizes longevity, prosperity and peace—and is guaranteed fun for the whole family in Chinatown.
Don't forget to check out Chinatown's restaurants, which have some of the best Chinese food — and cheap eats — in the city.
