A majestic art installation is lighting up the Esplanade de la Place des Arts.
Mural, in collaboration with Place des Arts, has installed Orb, a prestigious artwork by renowned (and mysterious) Spanish artist SpY (his first in-situ piece in Canada) in the heart of the city.
After being showcased in front of the Giza pyramids near Cairo, this mirrored spherical sculpture is now located on the Esplanade de la Place des Arts in Montreal, and will remain there for the next five years.
The Orb, composed of 90 circular mirrors, reflects its surroundings, constantly transforming with the light and movement, offering each visitor a unique perspective.
Add it to your list of the most Instagrammable spots in Montreal.
A four-metre-wide sculpture, Orb consists of 90 convex, polished-steel discs that create a kaleidoscopic effect, offering multiple perspectives to those who approach it.
The piece remains in constant interaction with its surroundings, both day and night, providing a unique visual and sensory experience.
Inspired by Egyptian spirituality and the mathematical constants that shape our understanding of the universe, the artist designed the work to evoke a deep connection between the viewer and the environment.
Time Out Tip: While the work is impressive during the day, gleaming in the sunlight and reflecting off of the giant pool of water, make sure to revisit it in the evening when the interior lights really make it come alive.
Located in Montreal's downtown core just a few steps from Time Out Market Montréal, the arrival of this work of art only further cements why Montreal is a cultural hub.
