If you don't walk through Old Montreal during the late afternoon or evening this weekend, you might miss it: Bombay Sapphire has set up a hedge maze with seven-foot-tall walls to explore, get lost in, and sip some gin while looking at artwork by some local artists. Here's the extra excellent thing about it: It's all free.
Running from August 6 to 8, 2021, a section of Saint-Laurent Boulevard will be cloaked in greenery. Guests (18 and up, of course) will be able to walk through the maze and have an opportunity to sample and discover the new product; they'll also be given a signature balloon glass as a takewaway gift.
Having launched its first flavoured gin in Quebec, Bombay wanted to create a unique installation—Le Bramble Hedge Maze—to 'stir the creativity of everyone who checks it out.
That's why local creatives have such a huge hand in it: There's the emerging glasswork artist Charlie Larouche who's put together a display of hand-blown goblets made with 24k gold leaf to reflect the aesthetics of the gin brand's bottle plus small tumblers to reflect the the colours, forms and textures of ripe raspberries and blackberries; the 'olfactory DJ' Jeroen Kleijn who creates scents to integrate smell and aromatherapy into multi-sensory projects has created a 'dynamic scent experience' that defies description; and there's the botanical artist Chantal Royer who has created installations from the botanicals of raspberry, blackberry, and juniper.
Le Bramble Hedge Maze is located at 430 Boul. Saint-Laurent in Old Montreal, and will be running from August 6 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from August 7 and 8 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
